The Fabulous Cash & Carter Show
Meet The Band

Jax Deacon
Johnny Cash
From a young age Jax has been performing in local bands playing such prestigious venues as The Regal Theatre and John Peel Centre in Stowmarket and even at the Apex in Bury St Edmunds. Since studying Music Performance at College, he has enjoyed exploring a wide range of genres and, aside from working with bands, he has taken part in many amateur dramatics’ productions in the Suffolk region.
In 2017 he co-started the band Jax&Co , the best of Johnny Cash, alongside guitarist and good friend Andy, also known as Slim Pickins’. The band offered an opportunity for Jax to combine his love for Theatre and Live music together in one great show, a tribute to the man in black!
With a passion for performing and a keen attention to detail, Jax has studied Johnny Cash extensively with the aim of creating a truly authentic show, transporting the audience back in time to the early career of the country music legend and his many great live performances with the Carter family.
Clare Wilding
June Carter

Clare Wilding has dipped her toes into the world of theatre throughout her life, from singing in cabaret shows, to performing in plays, pantomimes and theatre shows with different companies and at many venues in around Essex and Suffolk.
In recent times, when her son Jax, daughter Lindsey and husband Nos began performing with Jax&Co, she was happy to support from backstage, but soon after that she found herself stepping into the role of Mama D, representing the Carter family performing in countless gigs in local pubs and clubs. She is excited that the group is now expanding into the world of theatre with The Fabulous Cash & Carter Show and looking forward to performing at some very well-known venues across the East Anglian region and beyond.

Nos T Woods
Bass
Nos T Woods has been singing and playing guitar since he was at school and performed with a band called the Plants in the Ipswich area during the mid to late 80s. Later, he also spent some time busking in the centre of London. While Nos had no academic musical training, he was fortunate to meet and know musicians from various genres and learned about classical and folk instruments and composition and also spent a lot of time studying harmony vocal techniques. Nos also made good use of portable recording equipment to explore song writing and has fair catalogue of original material currently in progress.
Nos reckons his greatest inspiration is his family, his son Jax, daughter Lindsey and wife Clare. He was delighted to be asked to play bass guitar with Jax&Co back in 2018 and is really enjoying performing live again with such a talented band.
Aside from playing pubs and clubs with Jax&Co, Nos T. Woods is also looking forward to performing at theatres across the region with The Fabulous Cash & Carter Show.
Slim Pickins
Guitar

Slim Pickins’ started playing guitar when he was 15 and quickly decided that he would like to study music at college and explore different styles and techniques, particularly in the composition of melodic and epic metal lead guitar solos and breaks. During his time at College Slim also began to explore a wider variety of musical genres and soon decided he’d really like to play in a band. Around about this time Slim met guitarist and vocalist Jax Deacon, and soon after that, they formed an acoustic duo playing both covers and original songs in pubs and clubs around the Ipswich area. Slim and Jax soon realised that Songs by Johnny Cash, particularly Folsom Prison Blues, were always very well received.
Since then the duo has evolved into a well-established 5-piece Johnny Cash tribute band known across the county as Jax&Co, and Slim Pickins’ has become well known in the region for his sharp and stylish guitar play. Aside from playing with Jax&Co Slim also plays classic Surf Rock guitar tunes in occasional solo performances, and along with Jax is a regular host and performer at various Open Mic nights in the region. This year, the often well received Jax&Co also look set to begin working with local theatres performing The Fabulous Cash & Carter show, a celebration of the early career of the country music legend and his many great live performances with the Carter family.

Jim Heywood
Drums
Jim Heywood started playing drums when he was 13 and has become a skilful and accomplished percussionist. Initially influenced by metal bands such as, Lamb of God, Trivium and Iron Maiden, Jim studied music at university and completed a degree in Popular Music Performance. After spending several years living in Europe, Jim returned to England and decided to find work in music, and after spotting a drumming vacancy in Suffolk for a Johnny Cash tribute band called Jax&Co, he decided to call up the band and audition for the job.
Jim first heard of Johnny Cash via the Hollywood Movie, Walk the Line, but had not played any songs by Johnny Cash until joining Jax&Co. But since joining the band he has quickly adapted his own natural rhythmic style to enhance the music with an energetic and danceable beat. Jim looks set to accompany the group as they adapt their act to present regular theatre performances with The Fabulous Cash & Carter Show.
